First Nations representatives visit PHAI project sites

First-nations

Each year CNL staff meets with representatives of First Nations communities in the region to provide an update on the progress of the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI). The communities of Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha and Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations have expressed an ongoing interest in receiving current information about the projects and are included in the engagement sessions.

This year’s session, held in November, included a presentation on the progress of waste movement, remediation verification and restoration in Port Hope and Port Granby and the measures implemented by the CNL to monitor and mitigate environmental impacts of the PHAI.

First Nations representatives also participated in a tour of the project sites in both communities and met with CNL staff at some of the major sites for first-hand look at project progress.

CNL is committed to providing timely project information to the First Nations and Aboriginal communities and as project activity continues to ramp up, CNL will remain in close communication with these groups to keep them informed.
