PHAI update to Municipality of Clarington Council highlights project progress

DSCN7185Craig Hebert, PHAI Management Office General Manager, provided Municipality of Clarington Council and staff, as well as members of the public who were in attendance at the June 20 Council meeting, with a virtual tour of project progress. Through his slide presentation, Hebert described the construction work taking place at the Port Granby Project Long-Term Waste Management Facility site, including construction of an underpass for waste transportation under Lakeshore Road and installation of the baseliner system for the engineered aboveground mound, both starting this spring. Hebert described the importance of these activities, which will allow the start of excavation and transport of 450,000 cubic metres of historic low-level radioactive waste from the Port Granby Waste Management Facility on the Lake Ontario shoreline to the new site this fall. During his presentation, Hebert also highlighted the evolution of the Port Granby Project Waste Water Treatment Plant from the pilot-scale testing that led to the best-available technology installed at the recently built plant, which was placed into service earlier this year.
