PHAI MO welcomes visitors from Germany

WISMUT03PHAI MO staff welcomed two representatives of WISMUT GmbH on May 30 and 31. A government-owned company based in Germany, WISMUT is responsible for the remediation of legacy waste resulting from 45 years of uranium mining and milling in the region. Elke Kreyszig and Axel Hiller met with staff from the PHAI Management Office and the Low Level Radioactive Waste Management Office with a focus on environmental monitoring and long-term database management approaches. WISMUT01The Port Hope Area Initiative is currently the largest environmental remediation in Canada, and the exchange of information with WISMUT staff was a valuable opportunity to gain an international perspective on a similar project.
