Terms of use for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ official social media pages about the Port Hope Area Initiative

The Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) official social media pages about the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) is a place to receive information, connect, share, and tell us what you think. On these platforms you will find the most recent news stories, updates and photos about the PHAI and the National Programs managed as part of the CNL Historic Waste Program. Additionally you may find coverage of wider CNL content such as news releases, speeches and statements.

While CNL social media channels are a public forum, they are also family-friendly, so please keep your comments and wall posts free from obscene or discriminatory remarks. In addition to keeping it family- friendly, we ask that you follow our detailed posting guidelines. If you don’t comply, your message may be removed:

  • We do not allow graphic, obscene, explicit or racial comments or submissions nor do we allow comments that are abusive, hateful or intended to defame anyone or any organization.
  • This is not a forum for political debate. Please respect the purpose of the pages, which is to share and discuss information about the Port Hope Area Initiative projects.
  • We do not allow solicitations or advertisements. This includes promotion or endorsement of any financial, commercial or non-governmental agency, political or social group. Similarly, we do not allow attempts to defame or defraud any financial, commercial or non-governmental agency or any individual.
  • We do not allow comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity.
  • You participate at your own risk, taking personal responsibility for your comments, your username and any information provided by you.

The appearance of external links on this site does not constitute official endorsement on behalf of the CNL, PHAI, Natural Resources Canada, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited or any other Government of Canada agencies.

Feedback and ideas are welcome. All comments and messages will be read. They will be handled on a case-by-case basis and responded to when deemed appropriate.

We cannot engage on issues or answer questions which violate the principles of the guidelines noted above. Comments in violation of those guidelines may result in the user’s post being removed and the eventual blocking of the user, if the behaviour persists.

Additionally, to protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, we recommend that you do not include personal information such as a phone number, e-mail address or other contact information in the body of your comments. When redirected to an external site, you are subject to their privacy guidelines.

Moderating and posting of responses will generally occur during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time), Monday through Friday. Comments submitted after hours or on weekends will be read and replied to as early as possible.

PHAI Social Media User Agreement

The following User Agreement (“Agreement”) governs the use of official PHAI social media sites and pages to include social networking platforms, web blogs and file sharing sites, along with all policies applicable to the PHAI.

Please read the rules contained in this Agreement carefully. You can access this Agreement any time. Your use of any aspect of the social media sites will constitute your agreement to comply with these rules. If you cannot agree with these rules, please do not use these sites.

The Agreement may be modified from time to time; the date of the most recent revisions will appear on this page, so check back often. Continued access of the website by you will constitute your acceptance of any changes or revisions to the Agreement.

Your failure to follow these rules, whether listed below or in bulletins posted at various points on the sites, may result in suspension or termination of your access to the sites, without notice.

COMMENTS BY OTHERS ARE NOT ENDORSED

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) does not necessarily endorse, support, sanction, encourage, verify or agree with the comments, opinions, or statements posted on the sites. Any information or material placed online, including advice and opinions, are the views and responsibility of those making the comments and do not necessarily represent the views of CNL, the Government of Canada or its third party service providers.

By submitting a comment for posting, you agree that CNL, the Government of Canada and its third party service providers are not responsible, and shall have no liability to you, with respect to any information or materials posted by others, including defamatory, offensive or illicit material, even material that violates this Agreement.

EDITING AND DELETIONS

CNL reserves the right, but undertakes no duty, to review, edit, move or delete any material submitted as a comment to the information provided for display or placed on the social media websites in its sole discretion, without notice. Comments submitted to these sites will be reviewed and a representative sample may be posted on the website, or in the case of social networking sites, inappropriate comments may be deleted at the sole discretion of CNL.

We hope to receive submissions from all viewpoints, but we ask that all participants agree to the following Terms of Participation:

  • To ensure constructive questions, please post only questions directly related and relevant to the PHAI.
  • Refrain from posting questions that contain threats, obscenity, material that would violate the law if published here, abusive, defamatory or sexually explicit material.
  • Submissions containing the following will be deleted:
    • Contrary to the principles of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
    • Containing obscene or threatening language or discrimination (hate speech) based on race, sex, gender, religion, national origin, age, or disability;
    • Expressing racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, insulting or life-threatening messages;
    • Puts forward serious, unproven or inaccurate accusations against individuals or organizations;
    • Are aggressive, coarse, violent, obscene or pornographic in tone;
    • Are offensive to an individual or an organization, rude in tone or abusive;
    • Are not sent by the author, put forward for advertising purposes;
    • Promotes services or products (not including non-commercial links that are relevant to the topic)
    • Contain announcements from labour or political organizations;
    • Are unintelligible, off-topic or irrelevant messages;
    • Are repetitive or spamming of threads and/or do not, in the moderators’ opinion, add to the normal flow of the discussion;
    • Includes any personal or sensitive information (phone numbers, email, postal addresses or employee names)
  • External Links (including advertising links): The appearance of external hyperlinks does not constitute endorsement by CNL of the linked web sites, or the information, products or services contained therein. CNL does not exercise any editorial control over the information you may find at these locations. All links are provided consistent with the stated purpose of these PHAI websites.
