ANNOUNCEMENT – PHAI cleanup of Port Hope underway

Port Hope, ON (June 29, 2018) – The Port Hope Area Initiative cleanup of historic waste stored at the Centre Pier is underway. Under the oversight of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), the waste is being transported to the new Port Hope Long-Term Waste Management Facility, where it will be safely stored and monitored. The trucks are traveling along a designated transportation route, which was chosen to minimize the effect of project traffic on the community.

The Centre Pier is the first of three sites that will be cleaned up as part of this work package. Movement of the waste at the remaining sites, located at the Pine Street North Extension in the Highland Drive Landfill area and at the municipal sewage treatment plant, will begin later this summer.

Residents and other members of the public are encouraged to contact CNL if they have questions or concerns and to visit PHAI.ca for up-to-date project information.
