PHAI: 2023 Status Update

With the announcement of a CNSC ten-year licence renewal for Port Hope Area Initiative activities in Port Hope, residents can find out more details on the current status of the Port Hope Project in an upcoming public session. Underway in the community since 2018, the project involves the cleanup of low-level radioactive waste, transportation and placement of it into long-term safe storage. Activities are regulated by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).

Join Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) for a public information session, hosted by the Port Hope and District Chamber of Commerce, on Thursday March 30, 2023 to find out more about this community-requested solution to a long-standing environmental problem.

The event will take place at the Lions Centre, 29 Thomas St. Port Hope, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and includes a presentation by General Manager Mark Hughey followed by a question and answer period. Attendees are encouraged to submit topics of interest or questions in advance to the Port Hope and District Chamber of Commerce.

Updates about work both on the larger and residential sites will be provided, as well as plans for 2023 highlighted.

Register to attend the session by contacting the Port Hope and District Chamber of Commerce directly on their website at porthopechamber.com or calling 905.885.5519.

Attendees will need to enter the Lions Centre parking lot from Gifford or Strachan Street, as access from Thomas Street is restricted as part of PHAI industrial site work. The information session will be recorded and shared after the event.
