Safety and Success

As we end another year, I am grateful for your continued patience and support as we work together towards the completion of the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI).  We are pleased that this year was filled with milestone achievements, as the bulk of the historic waste in the community is now in safe storage.

Work at the Viaducts site was successfully completed as well as privately owned properties cleaned up and restored this year. With work at the Highland Drive Landfill, Port Hope Harbour and West Beach areas continuing at an optimal pace, we are on track for completion in the next few years. Similarly, the cleanup at the industrial sites included in the project is progressing well with both Lions Park and Chemetron Lagoon scheduled for restoration in 2024.

CNL remains active in both the Port Hope and Port Granby communities and supports where we live, work and play. Through resident collaboration, and invaluable feedback we continue to make inroads with this first-of-its-kind cleanup of historic low-level radioactive waste.

We are humbled by the strength of our partnerships with the Municipality of Port Hope, Municipality of Clarington and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, for whom we are undertaking this environmental solution. It is with the commitment, knowledge, and technical expertise of our staff, contractors, regulators, and interest groups that we continue to meet our goals. The inclusion of world views from Indigenous communities and organizations is integral to the solution to a long-standing problem.

If your Port Hope property requires a cleanup, you will receive information should your property be included in the 2024 spring/summer season.

With the ongoing concerns surrounding health and safety, we encourage you to take necessary precautions to ensure a happy and healthy holiday season. Whether you’re planning gatherings, traveling, or simply enjoying quiet moments at home, your safety is important. May this winter be filled with warmth, joy, and cherished moments.

At CNL, we’re committed to supporting you during this holiday season and beyond. If you have any concerns over our holiday break, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 905-885-0291.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and wonderful holiday season.
