NOTICE OF UPCOMING WORK – Alexander St. Ravine & Former Coal Gasification Site

As part of Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) activities, CNL contractors will be starting work to remove historic low-level radioactive waste from the Alexander Street Ravine and Coal Gasification sites this fall.

This work is scheduled to begin in September 2023 and includes fence installation, vegetation removal, and soil excavation followed by restoration at both sites.

Alexander Street will experience increased construction traffic and intermittent traffic stoppage. Please obey flag people and any posted signage.

The Alexander Street Ravine and Former Coal Gasification site are two of several municipally owned sites that are being cleaned up and restored through the PHAI, including the replanting of trees and other vegetation.

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories is committed to the safety of the public, its workers and the environment while undertaking this community-requested solution to a longstanding environmental issue.
