As active environmental stewards, it was a natural fit for CNL Port Hope staff to support the environmental leadership and community engagement on full display at the Green Together Sustainability Expo and Community Cleanup, held in celebration of Earth Week. The event brought together residents, organizations, and local groups for a day to focus on learning, collaboration, and hands-on action for the environment.
Ultimately drawing hundreds of attendees, the event created an opportunity for organizations like CNL and their contract partners to showcase their waste reduction and sustainability practices, through interactive exhibits, presentations and workshops.
Alongside the Sustainability Fair was the equally impactful Community Cleanup organized by Deputy Mayor Adam Pearson. Volunteers pitched in to collect litter and revitalize shared public spaces. The effort was part of the broader Mayors’ Keep the County Clean Challenge.
Several CNL employees participated in the Community Cleanup and actively worked with other residents and volunteers to clean up litter and debris in Port Hope including along the Ganaraska River. People of all ages were side-by-side with families, students, community groups, and CNL employees to show how even small individual contributions can lead to big results.
Following the Clean-up volunteers returned to the Port Hope Recreation Centre to enjoy a barbecue hosted by the Rotary Club of Port Hope from 2:00 – 4:00pm. The Touch-a-Truck event showcased large vehicles like fire trucks and snowplows and heavy equipment like excavators provided by municipal departments and Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) contractors.
As CNL continues to advance its sustainability goals, events like the Sustainability Expo and Community Cleanup play a vital role in keeping community members engaged.
The week of April 22, 2026, CNL employees and contractors also participated in separate cleanup events at multiple Port Hope locations, collecting hundreds of pounds of litter and garbage to mark Earth Day. Events such as these raise awareness and demonstrate action, proving that when a community works together meaningful change is possible.
