First Nations Engagement Session Highlights Environmental Monitoring Program

DSCN7131Representatives of the Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha and Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations met with Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) staff on June 16 to share updates from each of their communities and learn about current project activities in Port Hope and Port Granby. The session focussed on environmental protection and project impact mitigation measures, and the ongoing monitoring of air quality, groundwater and the aquatic, terrestrial and socio-economic environments. The group also took a walking tour of the Highland Drive area clean-up sites and observed a demonstration of on-site environmental testing procedures.

The PHAI is committed to engaging First Nations and Aboriginal communities to understand their areas of interest and provide timely information updates. As project activities increase, PHAI staff will remain in close communication with these communities to exchange information on regular basis.
