UOIT and Fleming College students learn about the PHAI projects

DSCN7940This fall, the Port Hope Area Initiative hosted visits from nuclear engineering students at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and students in the Fleming College Environmental Technology program.

PHAI staff provided an overview of the Port Hope and Port Granby projects, describing how historic low-level DSCN8215radioactive waste will be cleaned up, safely transported and stored at the long-term waste management facilities being constructed in each community.

Students then toured the major waste sites in Port Hope, including Strachan Street Ravine, the waterfront area and the Highland Drive area, where PHAI environmental technologists demonstrated how groundwater wells are monitored as part of an ongoing comprehensive environmental monitoring program.
