PHAI Licence Renewal: Update

CNL has submitted an application to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) for a ten-year renewal of the Port Hope Project Waste Nuclear Substance Licence to allow for the continuation of cleanup activities. Our current licence expires December 31, 2022 and the hearing for the renewal of the licence is scheduled to take place on November 22, 2022.

To support the application, we have completed a Commission Member Document (CMD) that provides a summary of the projects over the past ten years as well as identifies future plans. The CMD is available here. Interventions are now being invited by the CNSC and the request period will last until October 14, 2022.

A Notice of Public Hearing for Nuclear Facility for this hearing was recently distributed by the CNSC to Port Hope mailboxes with information on how to get involved.  All hearing documents may be found on the CNSC website listed under the November 22, 2022 Public Hearing for the Application by the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories for the renewal of its waste nuclear substance licence for the Port Hope Project https://nuclearsafety.gc.ca/eng/the-commission/hearings/cmd/index.cfm.  As interventions are submitted they will also be posted.
