During routine Port Hope Area Initiative work at the Center Pier in Port Hope, a release from a propane tank was discovered on February 24, 2025. This followed the detection of a gas odour. All onsite workers immediately proceeded to the designated muster point, and Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services was contacted to manage the scene.
The propane tank was being used to heat a building on the site. After checks by the fire service, the site was declared safe to resume work.
CNL notified the appropriate regulatory agencies, including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, as well as the Municipality of Port Hope. Cameco, which operates nearby, and the public were also notified.
There were no injuries, and the Centre Pier site is in a secure state with no risk to the public.
