While performing remediation and restoration activities on March 21, 2025 as part of Port Hope Area Initiative work on a privately owned property in Port Hope, Ontario, workers noted a natural gas smell. The team evacuated the area and emergency services were called.
Both Municipality of Port Hope Police and Fire services reported to the scene and restricted the area. No injuries were reported.
Investigation revealed a defective vent on a natural gas meter, which was subsequently repaired.
CNL notified the appropriate regulatory agencies, including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the Municipality of Port Hope.
At no time was there risk to the safety of the environment.
