During a routine site check at the Highland Drive South Ravine, a contractor noted water being pumped from a neighbouring property overland onto the site where topsoil had recently been placed.
As the water travelled across the freshly placed topsoil, sediment became mobilized and migrated south toward the creek. The water continued downstream, resulting in a visible sediment plume.
The material released was not contaminated with low-level radioactive waste and has since dissipated.
CNL has notified the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and Spills Action Centre of the situation.
