Port Hope

At 9 a.m. on May 1, 2023 during commissioning activities of the portable water treatment system installed at the Chemetron Lagoon, approximately 0.5 cubic metres of water overflowed from a collection tank. The spilled content (water pumped from the Lagoon for treatment before release) was contained on site and directed back to the lagoon.

CNL’s investigation determined that the overflow occurred because the operating level of the tank was too high. The operating level of the tank was adjusted and corrective actions put in place upon determination of the cause.

There were no impacts to workers, the public or the environment resulting from this event.
