On October 11, 2022, a CNL contractor performing earthworks at the Port Granby Long-Term Waste Management Facility using an excavator contacted a two-inch pipeline from an on-site pumping station to the equalization pond, which is designed to contain impacted water on the site.
A subsequent leak in the pipeline allowed a small amount of impacted water to escape the pipe. Upon detection of the leak, the liquid was immediately pumped to the equalization pond on site for processing. The pipeline was then repaired. There was no impact on the surrounding environment resulting from this event.
CNL is conducting a complete fact-finding investigation on the incident.
CNL reported this event to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. No injuries were reported and CNL confirms there is no threat to workers, the public or the environment related to this event.
