On December 13, 2023, following the receipt of a shipment of waste at a CNL storage location at 196 Toronto Road, Port Hope, it was determined that the waste was exempt from the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations under which it had been shipped. This determination was made by trained CNL TDG staff using the International Atomic Energy Agency methodology. As the waste had been overclassified and some of the accompanying paperwork was incomplete, CNL notified the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
The waste was placed in appropriate storage. There was no risk to workers, the public or the environment from this event. CNL has taken actions to prevent a recurrence.
