Port Hope

During routine activities at the Port Hope Harbour site on August 20, 2026, a hydraulic oil leak from a hose connector used on a barge in the harbour was identified. Approximately 80% of the oil landed on the barge, and about 20% (less than 10 millilitres of oil) landed in the water.

Hydrophobic booms were deployed immediately, and absorbent pads were used to clean the surface of the barge. The hydraulic fluid sheen was also removed from the water as part of the remediation. The hose was capped to stop the leak.

No residual material was observed following cleanup activities.

CNL notified the Ontario Spills Action Centre and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

At no time was there a risk to the safety of workers, the public, or the environment.
