CNL has reported to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission that residual waste shipped from the Port Granby Long-Term Waste Management Facility on January 18 had not been classified prior to shipping. Following receipt of the shipment at the Port Hope Long-Term Waste Management Facility, CNL determined that the waste is classified as “below regulated levels.” The waste was placed in the containment mound at the Port Hope facility for safe, long-term storage.
There was no risk to workers, the public or the environment from this event. CNL has taken actions to prevent a recurrence.
