Port Hope

On August 11, a dump truck conducting work on behalf of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) came into contact with an overhead utility cable at a Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) construction site. All work in the area was halted immediately. There were no injuries and no impacts to neighbouring properties. CNL has notified the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission about the incident.

CNL’s highest priority is keeping workers and the public safe. As such, CNL has directed its contractors to place all PHAI construction sites in Port Hope and Port Granby in a safe state and has suspended further construction work in order to conduct a thorough investigation of this incident. Corrective actions
identified in the investigation will be implemented across all sites to prevent a recurrence.

Work will resume when CNL has confirmed that all measures are in place for PHAI activities to continue safely.
